Overt AI – A product of the Cyber Defence Service, is a winner in the XTechGlobal AI Challenge, working in partnership with the U.S Department of Defense (DoD).

The US Army, Air Force and Navy commissioned the xTechGlobal Artificial Intelligence Challenge to find innovative AI-driven enhancements to enable their future “War Fighters” – the end-goal being to make impactful advances to the DoD’s multi-domain capabilities.

We are delighted to have won the XTechGlobal AI Challenge coming third place overall. We were amongst driven minds that had amazing ideas and innovations, all using Machine Learning to facilitate improvements in their products.

“The fact that we have made enough of an impact to be a top 10 finalist meant a great deal to us and our hard-working team. The prize money was welcome, well received, and somewhat of a surprise.” Ian Strachan – co-founder of the Cyber Defence Service.

Peter Davies – co-founder and Technical Director added “With companies applying internationally to be part of the challenge, it was a real technical achievement to make the top 10 and eventually top 3 companies.”

Our product, Overt AI is designed to provide real-time and recorded situational awareness of wireless heterogenous networks and was of particular interest given its applicability to signals intelligence. Additionally, the work that we have carried out on the discovery and classification of the RF signals – using deep learning signal analysis for detecting RF links and associated components of IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) was also a core part of the conversations.

The XTechGlobal AI Challenge Winners:

The second round of the challenge was hosted at the Imperial College London. The event lasted three consecutive days and was delivered in-person and through virtual conferences for those that could not attend or travel due to COVID.

This event involved seminars, a workshop and networking before closing with our presentations. We were thrilled and surprised to be in the top three winning pitches, as we were up against companies from across Europe with incredible offers in attendance.

Given the impressive array of other competitors, we didn’t expect to finish in the top three and having done so are super proud of the team to have impressed the judges with our ideas, services, and products. We also won an additional $30,000 that we are reinvesting into the continued development of our platform. More importantly, we have made invaluable contacts within the cohort and the DoD. We see this as a significant steppingstone into the future of our business working in defence.

Our congratulations go out to first place winner Marshall AI whose Marcus Nordstrom delivered an epic performance and Lattice Flow for coming second with Peter’s presentation. These are both amazing companies that are driven by true AI and innovation.

In addition to coming third, we have also successfully been accepted as part of the xTechGlobal 2021 Accelerator, and we can’t wait to get started with the xTech and FedTech team in the coming months.
